FIRST 5 YEARS:(Monday-Laredo, Texas)
Woke up and the Mortens(Steven & Reida)-both teachers-had gone to work. Pam, the Morton's daughter living with then, had two children: Kelli in kindergarten and Billy who wasn't old enough for school yet. Kelli had gone to school and Pam was up. I talked with Pam for awhile and then left to do some "shopping". The "shopping" was just a way to "kill" time while I waited for a load. (correction here...I assumed Kelli had gone to school. Not seeing Billy around, I asked and Pam told me they were visiting someone-don't remember who-and would be gone for a couple days)

I guess the highlight of my day was going to Radio Shack and seeing a laptop computer "on sale" for $999.00. I knew so very little about computers(no idea of the internet or email) that maybe I did not need to be buying one. I got it as I was interested in writing and the computer-I thought-represented the old typewriter that would store information and you could correct mistakes without using "Whiteout". I bought it, a printer that used the old paper feed, a carrying case and some 3.5 inch floppy discs. It all cost around $1500.00.... This computer had no hard drive and basically ran off four program discs. Disc 2 was missing when I bought the unit so the RS salesman said he would make me a copy, but he would not be able to make it until later that day. I took my new toy back to the Mortons and Pam was really excited about it. When Steven came home from work, he took me back to Radio Shack for disc 2.

That evening, Pam and I played with the computer and found the disc 2 to be defective. Pam said she would take me to Radio Shack for another disc 2 tomorrow.

I called dispatch and it looked like I would be in Laredo to about Wednesday.
